RUMMY RULES

FORMING A TABLE

  1. FIRST TABLE
Early birds form the first table. Cut of Cards for seating will also decide the sequence of leaving this table. The lowest card holder will have to leave first to facilitate forming a new table if all 5 players have joined the table above time. The second table will be formed only after the first table has five players. New arrivals should form a new table with the available players before demanding the players from the first table if the former falls short of the required numbers.
  2. If only one table of five players is existing & a sixth player comes he/she can join the table but shall have to leave when any other player comes.
  3. SPLITTING OF A TABLE
When two or more tables of full strength are existing and a new table is to be formed the player(s) who came last on any of the existing tables, irrespective of the time of its formation, will join the new table. Adjustment will be made to ensure equitable distribution. Four is considered as a table.
  4. NUMBER OF PLAYERS
When a table has been reduced to three, players can demand a player from the table having five players. In that case, a player who has joined that table last will join this table. 'Rule of last in first out’ will be observed. However, a volunteer may be allowed to go subject to unanimous permission of all players.
  5. NEW ARRIVALS
A new player will join the table with least number of players irrespective of the number of players already playing there and will sit on the left of the dealer currently dealing the hand.
  6. CHANGE OF TABLE
A player wanting to change the table can do so only on the arrival of a new player without violating the principle of equitable distribution.
  7. CLOSE RELATIVES
Husband, wife, children or close relatives cannot play on the some table unless there is only one table. In that case, relatives will not take the adjoining seat, irrespective of the cards they cut. When such a table has to split, the relative who cut the lower cards will be the first player to leave the table.
  8. CUT FOR SEATS
Players will cut a card each. The player with highest card will choose a seat and others will sit to his right in order of their respective cards. The player cutting the lowest card will sit to his left & deal. Any player who joins inbetween will sit to the left of the player who is currently dealing.
  9. DEALS IN A ROUND & NOTICE FOR LEAVING
Number of hands to be dealt in a round will be equal to the number of players. However, if the number of players is four or less then the cut will be after two rounds.
  10. NOTICE FOR LEAVING
A player must play for at least one hour within the club closing time. A player however can leave without notice in the following circumstances.
    1. Has lost a full kitty or more.
    2. Has lost at least half a kitty at the end of the round in progress.
    3. In case of emergency, when majority of the players are satisfied.
    4. Unless the table is breaking or Club is closing any player who wishes to leave must give a notice of clear one round.
    5. A Bridge player who is required for the formation/completion of a Bridge foursome will be allowed to leave the table immediately after the completion of the current deal. All other requirement such as minimum one hour play or one round notice shall stand waived.
  11. JOINING IN THE LAST ROUNG
A player can join in the last round only if the round has not yet started. One hour rule in such a case will be relaxed. No player can join inbetween the last round. If some player(s) have announced “last round” and other players are continuing to play, a new player can join in.
  12. TIME BITUCE/OTHER STIPULATIONS
A player when joining can give notice for the fixed time but it should not be less than one hour. If, after giving a notice, the player wishes to carry on playing on the same table, he/she will have to stay out for one complete round. There is no such thing as “my usual time of leaving”. It will have to be clearly specified. New player joining the table should be informed on arrival if the table is breaking up or thinning out.
